EU/NATO Completes Liberal Coup in Romania

31-05-2025: The second round run-off of the latest presidential election in Romania has delivered an implausible “victory” for the liberal pro-EU (European Union) mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan. Purportedly, Dan won 53.6% of the votes cast by 11 million Romanians, over 46.4% for George Simion.[1] This is scarcely believable. In November last year, EU and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) skeptic Calin Georgescu won the first round of the elections, securing 22.94% of the vote, surpassing liberalist candidate Elena Lasconi with 19.18%. The Romanian Constitutional Court, under heavy pressure from the EU and NATO, annulled the results of these elections on the basis of allegations that the Russian Federation had interfered in the elections with a Tik Tok social media campaign. Many Romanians were outraged, and on January 12 at least 100 000 took to the streets of Bucharest to protest. They mobilised under the slogans “Democracy is Not Optional” and “We Want Free Elections”.[2] However this action was not enough to prevent the EU and NATO liberal globalists from carrying through an effective coup with the May 18 installation of Nicușor Dan.

Statistically impossible

Georgescu was arrested as he attempted to register his candidacy for the new round of presidential elections. Whether one agrees with his politics or not, he was the most popular politician in Romania at that point. Georgescu was a critic of the EU and NATO, but did not even call for Romania’s withdrawal from these bodies. He did, however, commit that as President, Romania would cease all aid and co-operation with NATO’s proxy war on Russia via Ukraine. This was too much for the liberal EU elite, and they moved to stifle or cancel the most basic of democratic rights in Romania. It is all but certain that the “results” of the May 18 run off election delivered a statistically impossible outcome. George Simion took the place of the banned Georgescu, even though Simion was less antagonistic to the EU and NATO. In the first round of the re-run elections, Simion won 41% while EU favourite Dan received 21%. In round two, Simion won 46.4% beside Dan’s 53.6% – but this represents a 155% increase. To do this, Dan needed the backing of 87% of the voters. However, neither of the other first round candidates (Crin Antonescu on 20% or Victor Ponta on 13%) supported Dan in the second round.[3] So where did over 30% of the vote for Dan come from?

George Simion immediately raised the alarm of massive interference from liberal globalist forces. He alleged that 1.7 million dead people were on the voter rolls. The vote of the Romanian diaspora also favoured Dan, but totalled 1.64 million ballots, an increase of 660 000 over the first round. Simion accused the anti-Russian government of Moldova of “immense fraud” as ex-pat Romanians supposedly voted at three times the level they did in the first round on May 4.[4] Simion also accused French President Emmanuel Macron – who has effectively banned Marine Le Pen from running in the next French presidential elections in 2027 – of imposing huge pressure through the ambassador to “rob the Romanian people of their vote”.[5] Dr George Szamuely, a senior research fellow at the Global Policy Institute, stated that the Romanian election was a “giant absolute fraud”. He said that the exuberant and delighted messages coming out of Brussels immediately afterwards show its sham nature. According to him, the EU officials interfered very strongly by essentially threatening Romania with dire consequences if it voted the “wrong way”.[6]

Rigged elections “the new normal”

Incredibly, Pavel Durov stated openly that a “Western European government” (most likely France) approached the social media platform Telegram and requested that it silence conservative voices ahead of the May 18 elections. Durov said he flatly refused, and went on to say “You cannot defend democracy by destroying democracy. You cannot fight election interference by interfering with elections. You either have freedom of speech and fair elections – or you do not. And the Romanian people deserve both.”[7] To top it off, Romanian “president elect” Dan visited Poland less than a week after the elections to publicly support the liberal pro-EU candidate Rafal Trzaskowski.[8] In the wake of the fraudulent “Covid pandemic”, rigged elections are becoming “the new normal”, and not just in Europe. The official results of the US presidential election in 2020, the Australian federal election in 2022 and the Brazilian general election in 2022 were marred by what was highly likely to be electoral irregularities at best, or outright deceit at worst.

The key issue in the Romanian election was that the “conservatives” wanted to end Romania’s participation in NATO’s proxy war on Russia via Ukraine, while the liberals wanted to deepen and extend it. US imperialism clearly has the aim of freezing the conflict through a “ceasefire”, while they send in NATO troops to bolster the Nazified Ukrainian regime. Romania and Moldova are key to this wild plan, and so Brussels could not allow any Romanian president who objected to this strategy for a potential World War III. It sounds like a nightmare scenario, but this is what faces Europe and the world. In the 20th century, liberals were generally anti-war and conservatives were generally pro-war. In the 21st century, many conservatives oppose war while almost all liberals are strongly in favour of war. In an upside-down world, liberalism is today the guiding ideology of imperialism, the last stage of capitalism. Despite Donald Trump and the Republicans sitting in the White House, the EU forges forward with faux “progressive” politics, while setting the stage for nuclear war.

The liberal coup in Romania is another example whereby the capitalist ruling classes maintain control while avoiding the expense, and the danger, of installing fascism. In the 1930s, several capitalist ruling classes opted for fascism in order to save capitalism from a potential lunge towards socialism by their respective working classes. Today, this step is arguably not required for two reasons. Firstly, the conservatives who today fight against the degeneration of the system do not move against capitalism itself. Secondly, the liberal left – which includes many fake “socialist” parties, trade union officials and others – likewise make no moves against capitalism either. This is despite all of their “progressive” rhetoric. To end rigged elections and the threat of war, working people will need to leap from bourgeois “democracy” to workers’ democracy. With the working class holding the reins of political power, democracy will be expanded a thousand times over. Genuine Marxist vanguard parties need to be assembled to erect the guideposts for a revolutionary change which is well overdue.
