Syria: Al Qaeda’s “Kristallnacht” On Alawites and Christians

24-03-2025: Massacres of unspeakable horror have taken place in Syria, by the very forces Western governments want us to believe form a new government. Author Dan Kovalik estimates that the numbers killed are between 7000 to 10 000 people,[1] mainly Alawites, but also Christians and other minorities. Previously, religious minorities had been protected by the Syrian Arab Republic, which was finally overthrown by Al Qaeda and other fanatical terrorists armed and funded by imperialism in December last year. Al Qaeda, supposedly led by former ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) number two Mohammad Al Jolani (Ahmed Al-Sharaa), are taking revenge on the Alawite minority, from which the Assad family belonged. While some Alawites benefited from connections to the Assads, the majority were regular citizens, and many were not at all wealthy. Now with Al Qaeda in power, Alawites are being fired from their jobs without being paid. In the street they are arrested, forced at gunpoint to bark like dogs and beaten in public. Now the Alawites are the subject of one of the worst genocides the world has yet witnessed. It bears similarity to, or even surpasses, the Kristallnacht pogrom against Jews in Nazi Germany in 1938.

Slaughter of innocents

Thousands of Alawites have taken refuge in the Russian military bases in Tartus and Hmeimim, where they were welcomed.[2] However, the Russian forces are scarcely able to feed and house thousands of people for any length of time. A gruesome slaughter of innocents took place in the Syrian coastal cities of Latakia, Tartus and Jableh. Men, women and children were rounded up, with gunfire being heard for hours. Some in the Druze community were also victims. A survivor was quoted as saying “…they were foreigners. Some were Arab, others were not. They had dead eyes, no emotion.”[3] The bloodthirsty terrorists that make up Al Jolani’s crew are almost entirely non-Syrian, like Al Jolani himself, who is Saudi Arabian.[4] Uzbeks, Tajiks, Chechens and many other non-Syrian nationalities make up HTS (Hayat Tahrir Al Sham), which is rebranded from Al Nusra and ISIS before that.

Al Jolani’s cutthroats went door to door searching for Alawites and others suspected of being a supporter of the former government and hauled them out for summary execution. Christians may not have been the direct target of the slaughter, but some were caught up in the deadly mayhem. There are some 300 000 to 1 million Christians in Syria, and they have always co-existed with Alawites, Druze and Sunni Muslims. It is important to note that the overwhelming majority of Sunnis in Syria do not at all back HTS or the Salafists and Wahabists that comprise Al Qaeda.[5] In fact, most Sunnis in Syria generally supported the former Syrian Arab Republic. One Sunni Syrian hid several Syrian families in his apartment in the coastal town of Baniyas, saving their lives from the rampaging HTS/Al Qaeda blood-soaked hordes.[6] HTS barbarians laughed and grinned as they conducted the massacre, filming themselves waving to the camera while conducting unimaginable atrocities.[7]

Dr Zeid Moustapha posted on X about the mass graves that are countless on the Syrian coast, in addition to the valleys, rivers and seas into which thousands of bodies were hurled.[8] Eva Bartlett reported that the so-called White Helmets, a Western propaganda construct, have been collecting and hiding the bodies,[9] as they have done for years in co-operation with the US government backed guns for hire. It was primarily Washington which orchestrated the dirty war on Syria, as outlined by Tim Anderson in his 2016 book of the same name.[10] This proxy war was arguably the worst dirty war ever conducted in a long history of coups and regime change operations planned and executed by the CIA and the deep states of the West. Whatever the faults of the former Syrian government, it provided health care and education for its people and maintained a multi-religious society.

EU bolsters Al Qaeda

Even US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has, in words, condemned the horrific actions of the “Islamic terrorists” and expressed solidarity with Syria’s minorities. Further, even the Israeli government blamed Syria’s “new government” for the massacres.[11] This is little more than window dressing, as the US government admits to having 2000 troops in Syria, and the Israeli state has occupied whole swathes of Syrian territory to the south. The EU (European Union) has no such qualms about associating itself with one of the worst genocides of the 21^st century. Al Jolani was invited to the EU Donor Summit in Brussels[12] at the same time as his forces were physically exterminating Alawites and Christians in Syria. HTS was represented by the Al Qaeda Syrian “Foreign Minister” Asaad Al-Shibani at the March 17 event, where the EU and its partners pledged no less than $8.4 billion in “aid”.[13] Pledged during the abominable annihilation of thousands in Syria who had little or nothing to do with the former Syrian government, a better definition of blood money can hardly be encountered.

Unfortunately, the pro-Palestine movement in the West will remain silent about this genocide, while correctly raising the alarm about the Israeli state’s genocide of Palestinians since October 7, 2023. This is because many of them also stood with Al Qaeda in demanding regime change in Syria, while also spruiking for regime change in Iran. Incredibly, many of them also back Nazified and NATO armed Ukraine against Russia! Workers of the world, on the other hand, must stridently oppose imperialism on all fronts, regardless of the character of the state which is the current target. Washington and its allies, from the EU to Australia and Canada, are prepared for more chaos and wanton bloodshed in an attempt to preserve their dying empire. Genocides can be stopped by removing their ultimate source – obsolete finance capitalism. The building of workers’ vanguard parties has never been so urgent. US/ISRAELI TROOPS: GET OUT OF SYRIA! NO WAR ON IRAN! NO WAR ON YEMEN!
