23-09-2024: In mid-September British Prime Minister Keir Starmer flew to the White House to meet with lame duck US President Joe Biden, with the main item on the agenda being the approval of long range or “deep” strikes into Russian territory from Ukraine. The British/French supplied Storm Shadow missiles are air launched and have a range of around 250 kilometres.[1] Those with some awareness of the stakes involved around the world were incredulous. British and American troops guiding NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) supplied missiles into the Russian Federation could well be a direct trigger for World War III – a nuclear war waged by Washington and London against Moscow. Despite the Nazi infested Ukrainian forces being supplied almost endless weaponry, it is losing a war of attrition against Russia in graphic terms. Deep missile strikes on Russia at this stage will not turn around Ukraine’s desperate situation, and the only thing that possibly could is the entry of NATO directly into the conflict. Again, this means World War III, but US and British imperialism seem hell bent on bringing it about. They must be stopped by an international anti-war movement, at the least.

NATO’s war

NATO has been crossing one red line after another in its failing efforts to nobble Russia. After the Kursk incursion, we have witnessed NATO crossing red line after red line, each one threatening a potentially world destroying nuclear exchange. We now have seen NATO weapons in Ukraine, NATO troops in Ukraine, NATO supplied F-16s in Ukraine, NATO soldiers commanding the missiles supplied by the West, NATO troops on Russian territory, NATO drones attacking Russian targets and NATO troops taking over Russian territory, taking prisoners and killing Russians.[2] It is a miracle that Russian President V Putin has not yet declared war on the West. The colossal restraint showed by Russians in the face of these almost limitless provocations is the main reason why nuclear war has not already occurred. There are limits, though, even for the Russian leadership. President Putin has emphasised that it is not “Ukraine” who will fire such missiles, as the satellite targeting data and actual programming of the missile flight paths could only be done by NATO military personnel. Putin declared, not without foundation, that if such a decision is taken by Starmer and Biden, it will mean nothing less than the direct involvement of NATO in the conflict – which will change its very essence.[3]

Meanwhile, in the US (United States of America) itself, there has just been another assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Again, the information already coming to light indicates that the deep state had knowledge of the individual concerned and may have even assisted him in the attempt. The Grayzone reports that would be Trump assassin Ryan Routh went to Kiev to fight for Ukraine’s Nazi soaked state, recruited for an International Legion, yearned for the assassination of Trump and Putin and urged nuclear war with the Russian Federation.[4] Zero Hedge noted that Routh planned to move, in some cases illegally, volunteers from Pakistan and Iran to Ukraine. It is almost inconceivable that the CIA and the FBI did not have an awareness of who Ryan Routh was, and what he was doing.

Where is the left?

Routh also appeared in a promotional video of the most notorious Nazi brigade, the Azov Battalion, in 2022.[5] Others have pointed out that Routh must have had some inside knowledge that Trump would be on the golf course in Florida that day, as he camped out the night before. As per the previous Trump assassination attempt, the Secret Service made stunning “mistakes” in their efforts to protect former President Trump, which ask huge questions. The motivations of Routh and the deep state appear to be clear in this case – Trump is pledging to end the war in Ukraine, or at the very least wind back US backing for the defunct Nazified Kiev regime. While it is true that, if allowed to be elected, Trump may continue Israel’s war on Palestine and may continue more provocations against China in the Pacific, the deep state cannot tolerate a President who is not gung-ho on war with Russia. At the rate we are travelling, Trump will have to stay inside a bunker until November, or he will be gunned down again while campaigning in public, perhaps at one of his signature rallies.

Working people need to grapple with why there is almost no anti-war movement in the West in response to the ever growing danger of a nuclear war on Russia, and repeated attempts on the life of a candidate who pledges (whether it comes to pass or not) to prevent a Western led war on Russia. RF Kennedy Jr and Donald Trump Jr have even released a statement pleading with the Biden-Harris Administration to open direct negotiations with Russia to avoid an open nuclear war.[6] In the face of this Armageddon scenario, where is the left, or what used to be referred to as the left? In practice, they are directly behind Biden and Starmer, and the very centre of US/UK imperialism, as they also exhibit monomaniacal Russophobia. From the Democrats down to Union officials down to self-proclaimed “socialist” parties, all of them are locked in with the absurd narrative of an “aggressive” Russia seeking to march through Europe. They retail nonsensical and self-contradictory stories of Putin being a weak and isolated leader to one being capable of taking over the entire planet.

This “left” is the reason why there are no anti-war marches taking place up and down the length and breadth of the US, Europe, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. With a handful of important exceptions, the “left” which was anti-war, anti-imperialist and distrustful of state authorities are today totally subordinate to the very pillars of capitalism they once denounced. They are silent as World War III approaches, as they find themselves enforcing censorship in league with Western elites. They have such extensive bouts of Trump Derangement Syndrome that they cannot bring themselves to decry assassination attempts on him. What is urgently required is a real left which opposes all wars, and every facet of imperialism, not just one or two of its crimes. A genuine left would recognise that a potential World War III is the result of the dead end of capitalism, and that the urgent establishment of workers’ republics throughout the West is critical. Authentic Marxist parties must be assembled to light the path forward. Workers must ensure that humanity survives. NO TO WORLD WAR III !
