No Fees for Degrees!

26-06-2020: Not content with running Universities into the ground through decades of funding cuts, the Federal Government is now blatantly embarking on another multi-pronged attack on the higher education sector. In a speech to the National Press Club, Liberal National Party (LNP) Minister for Education Dan Tehan announced massive fee hikes for Arts, Law and Commerce degrees alongside large fee reductions for degrees in Maths and Agriculture (by 62%). Teaching, nursing, clinical psychology, English and languages fees will drop by 46%. In an obviously targeted blast, tuition fees for Humanities degrees will more than double (by 113%). Fees for Law and Commerce degrees will increase by 28%, while fees for medical, dentistry and veterinary science will not change. Science, health, architecture, environmental science, IT and Engineering degrees will cost 20% less than what they were previously.[1]

Falling behind Red China

Some have commented that conservative governments routinely denigrate faculties such as the Humanities as “useless”, and favour University studies for “real” work like Engineering, and this latest move is a continuation of that trend. Though there is much in this critique that is true, it is also the case that the booming socialist economy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC)– despite being saddled with a conservative and nationalist political leadership – is leaving the flailing economies of the capitalist West in the dust. This is particularly apparent in the stupendous advances in science and technology that the PRC is demonstrating on a regular basis. For example, no country has been able to attempt, let alone effect, a soft landing on the dark side of the moon – apart from the PRC. In early January 2019 the China National Space Administration (CNSA) successfully landed the lunar rover Chang’e-4 on the far side of the moon,[2] where the USA and the USSR never managed to tread. The PRC is now a scientific power, accompanying its rise as an economic and, therefore, political power.

The PRC aims to become a global innovator by 2050, and its largely collectivised and planned economy enables billions of yuan (China’s currency) to be fed into state backed science and technology research and development. The results are plain to see. It is estimated that by 2017, some 8 million students had graduated from Chinese universities, which was a ten-fold increase over the previous 20-year period, and doubled the number graduating from US universities. China’s share of global scientific papers virtually tripled from 6.4% in 2003 to 18.2% in 2013 – second only to the US at 18.8%.[3]  A glance at such stats reveals some of the real basis for Western anti-China hysteria.

Australia’s lack of student performance in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) is largely a result of the dire lack of tertiary education funding, for which both Labor and Liberal governments have been to blame. This crisis has alarmed sections of the Australian ruling class itself, as it was glaring. As far back as 2015, the Australian Industry Group explicitly called for the implementation of strategies to increase the number of undergraduates in the STEM disciplines.[4]

Coronavirus used as a false pretext

Covid-19 manufactured hysteria is clearly being used as a cover for the most severe attack on working class people since the Great Depression of the 1930s.[5] Inhumane and life-taking lockdowns, economic shutdowns, and wave after wave of job cuts have been blamed on a “virus”. It is nothing of the sort. Covid-19 is, at worst, a mild illness which may possibly contribute to a slightly increased danger for those with very advanced age and/or chronic adverse health conditions. In reality, the ruling elites of the West have been gunning for imperialist war against China, Russia, Iran and others for at least ten years. Having been blocked in this quest by Russia, Syria, Iran and the DPRK, the billionaire class used the opportunity of a coronavirus to instead wage war against “their own” workers. The current assault by Canberra on the right of working people to tertiary education should be seen in this context.

This is the main reason why all those who stand in opposition to the latest funding cuts to higher education must at the same time shed any allegiance to the fake “pandemic” narrative. The very same politicians that are now ripping more taxpayer dollars from Universities are the very same ones which have enacted a totalitarian nightmare against the masses from one end of the country to another. These very same politicians who are now attempting to discourage students from studying the Humanities are the very same ones who have effectively abolished freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of association and freedom of movement under the truthless slogan of “staying safe”. Infatuated with the amount of power handed to them, these politicians have attempted to enforce blind and unthinking submission to authority on a disoriented populace.

Without exception, and without asking, the corporate politicians have received willing assistance in the waging of a vicious attack on working people by treacherous Union officials and the clueless parties of the “lockdown left”. Abandoning even a display of token defiance to the capitalism they claim to oppose, these charlatans have been the most enthusiastic enforcers of the absurd and logic-defying Covid-19 rules such as isolation of the healthy and “social-distancing”. That is, they did not hesitate to act as state troopers against workers who so much as questioned the coronavirus fairytales.

Education is a right which must be fought for. It must be free, from kindergarten to the most advanced University tuition. Students should not be burdened with onerous debts while the 600 largest corporations in Australia pay little or no tax. If capitalism in the 21st century cannot provide free education, then let it perish. What is required is a working-class fightback against every manifestation of the onslaught waged under the cover of a pathogen, from lockdowns to job cuts, to university fee hikes, to imperialist war. Socialism offers the only salvation from a world in crisis, but it must be built by workers who are free from those who would force them to wear face masks – the mark of a slave.                         NO FEES FOR DEGREES!   FOR FREE EDUCATION!

Black Lives Matter: Friend or Foe?

Black Lives Matter: Friend or Foe?

21-06-2020: Throughout the Western world, riots and protests have taken place over the police murder of George Floyd, an unarmed African American, in Minneapolis, USA. Under normal circumstances, protests against such an act would be understandable, and would be something that working people could throw their weight behind. Yet the context for these actions took place in anything other than normal circumstances, and the political direction of the riots and protests were not progressive. The leadership emanated from the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organisation and was backed by liberals and what became the “lockdown left”. BLM may have begun with good intentions some years ago under the Obama administration in the US, but today one word best describes its character: hypocrisy.

Whither the coronavirus?

For three months up until the days after George Floyd was killed, many of the forces behind BLM were united as one behind the very same Western governments they rioted against the next week. BLM and the lockdown left formed a critical part of the imperialist state as it drove the coronavirus plot, a cover for barely restrained attack on working people through lockdowns, “social-distancing” and intense political repression. The farcical claimed rationale of “saving lives” was in fact a deadly fig-leaf for the largest assault on the working class since the Great Depression of the 1930s.[1] For three months straight, BLM and the lockdown left were the most vociferous backers of the police while they were enforcing “coronavirus” lockdowns. They did NOT oppose police violence when it was used to enforce the lockdowns, and did NOT defend African Americans nor Aboriginal Australians against the armed fist of the capitalist state – as they had swallowed the bourgeois Covid-19 narrative whole.

For example, Aboriginal elder Malcolm McKenzie was arrested for protesting against lockdown barricades being installed in his home town of Davenport, South Australia.[2] Aboriginal communities were in many cases subjected to harsher lockdowns than that of non-Aboriginal Australia, with some having to gain police permission to enter or leave quarantined areas. Greens MP Tammy Franks did condemn the arrest of Mr McKenzie but did not oppose the lockdown which caused the problem. Those who later marched under the BLM banner over the situation in Minneapolis were silent. In the Northern Territory (NT), the Australian Army was brought in to enforce pitiless lockdowns in remote Aboriginal communities and towns with a high Aboriginal population such as Tennant Creek and Katherine. Federal Police (!) soon followed the military.[3] For Aboriginal people who have endured the colonisation of the continent, the Stolen Generations (removal of Aboriginal children), and the NT “Intervention” (the deployment of military and police into Aboriginal communities), yet another military and police intrusion revives the all too recent trauma inflicted by the colonial powers. Yet the lockdown left and supporters of BLM remained utterly silent. Black Lives Matter?

Colour revolution

The open dichotomy where BLM strongly backed the armed forces of the capitalist state even while supposedly protesting against it is most evident in the means it chose to employ. In the US, it used wanton violence – riots, looting and even murder. Retired police captain David Dorn was shot dead by looters in St. Louis.[4] Many businesses that were ironically owned by African Americans, as well as Asian Americans and other migrants came close to being totally destroyed.[5] The transparent aim was to get rid of President Donald Trump, by fair means or foul. Either through the ballot box by backing the Democrats in the November Presidential elections, or through chaotic street violence, or a combination of both. In other words, it appears to have been a colour revolution coming home.

The US government has a history of orchestrating colour revolutions in foreign countries, in order to bring down any leader or government which has the temerity to defend itself against Western imperialism. Billionaire financier George Soros, through his Open Society Foundation (OSF) is known to have participated through funding several of these colour revolutions (which are really counter-revolutions) against “communism” in Eastern Europe in Serbia, Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan.[6] Unfortunately, Soros’ liberal anti-communism is shared by the lockdown left and many who back BLM, even as they routinely denounce anyone who points out this connection as a “conspiracy theorist”.  The OSF is known for being obscure about where its millions of dollars in “donations” are directed,[7] but given the long list of liberal and civil society causes and organisations within the US that have received OSF funding, it is very likely that BLM has been one of the recipients. Here we refer to BLM the organisation rather than people who are drawn into BLM riots, rallies and protests.

One indicator that the BLM George Floyd riots were led in the direction of a reactionary colour revolution were the mysterious piles of bricks that appeared in half a dozen US cities.[8] The piles of loose masonry were strategically placed along the routes of BLM marches, inviting enraged rioters to conveniently pick them up and use them as projectiles. Whether these were paid for by George Soros or not, whoever supplied them obviously has deep pockets, and did not at all desire a peaceful protest. To our knowledge, the BLM organisation did not denounce the looting and violence that took place during the riots, and it even had the backing of substantial sections of the liberal corporate media.[9] This is another indicator that the riots were in fact not about George Floyd per se, but about President Donald Trump.

In Seattle, the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) was established. Barricading out six city blocks, BLM activists and supporters held off police in a supposedly peaceful occupation of parts of the city centre. President Trump vowed to crush the BLM and Antifa (a loose network of various anti-fascist types) backed autonomous zone, which was rather ironic given US imperialism’s backing for the “autonomous zone” in Northern Syria, using remorseless anti-government and pro-US Kurdish militias as proxies.[10] The existence of CHAZ somewhat resembled the “Occupy” protests of 2011, which took place in the US and a number of countries around the world. The key difference is that the Occupy movement had an overall progressive political message – it wanted an end to the vast gap between the obscenely rich minority of stock market billionaires and the overwhelming majority who exist in semi or actual poverty. Despite the Occupy movement subsiding partially due to a rejection of socialism or even working-class struggle as an alternative, it was at least an attempt to find a path towards social justice. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for CHAZ and BLM.

BLM and identity politics

BLM is the ultimate end of black identity politics, that is, the elevation of a racial indicators over and above other more substantial areas of commonality – such as class. That is one reason why it cannot go any further forward and ends in political activity which is easily co-opted by capitalism itself. This is despite many BLM supporters, especially the lockdown left, viewing themselves as “anti-capitalists” and even “socialists”. There are almost no protests, let alone riots, which can be backed by billionaire corporations, but the BLM George Floyd actions certainly were. The list of capitalist mega-corporations that have donated millions either to BLM directly or related charities in the wake of the riots is long, but instructive. An inexhaustive roll-call includes: Apple, Nike, Sony, Amazon, Microsoft, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, EA Games, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Etsy, H & M, Toms Shoes, Everlane, Levis, GAP, McDonalds, Wendys, Coca-Cola, and the United Health Group.[11]

It is not just that these corporations can see dollar signs in opportunistically posing as defenders of the anti-racism cause, though this is apparent. More to the point, the politics of BLM is so narrow and so restricted to one issue that it can garner support from anyone from any social class. In fact, the politics of BLM is so vague and ineffectual that the very billionaires of the ultimate oppressive class that benefit from the system which includes racism against people of colour can claim opposition to this racism. BLM could potentially be a progressive political movement if it linked the racism that exists to the structure of the system that uses it to divide working people. In other words, racism can only really be combatted by uniting black, white, yellow, red and brown people in a working-class struggle against the rule of finance capital. This is of course the very opposite of black identity politics.

The limitations of BLM and its politics are also on display with the one demand it actually did produce – “Defund the Police”. This demand lays bare the politics of BLM and the lockdown left. The police are a component part of the core of the capitalist state, alongside the courts, prisons, armed forces and the public service bureaucracy. While it is undeniable that the police use violence against working people, including people of colour, police cannot be abolished unless and until there is something to replace it. In the struggle to replace capitalism with socialism, workers struggle to erect their own state – which defends the overwhelming majority – in place of the capitalist state, which defends a numerically insignificant but extremely wealthy minority. While there will likely be “police” under a workers state, their class character changes into the opposite of what they are under a capitalist state. Police violence now stems from the class character of an armed force which needs extreme violence to protect the wealth of the few against the crying needs of the overwhelming majority. If there is any police violence under a workers’ state, it will mainly be directed against preventing the possibility of the ultra-rich minority from employing violence in attempts to regain their lost wealth and political power. In general, policing in a workers state will be used to defend the majority – an impossibility under capitalism.

Even though many workers now understand that capitalist state police sometimes commit gross injustices against them, and against minorities of all kinds, they also know that at the present moment police also play a social function that is not taken up by any other force. Despite their many crimes, working people are still compelled to call the police if they feel themselves or their homes are in danger. Until a workers’ movement is powerful enough to set up its own “police”, working people cannot support the abolition of the police as they exist now. The demand to “Defund the Police” is also the height of liberalism, for it implies that the capitalist state can be used to dismantle itself.

BLM and imperialist war

While issuing calls for a fraudulent scaling-down of the state at home, BLM do not recoil from backing the very same state abroad, even when that state engages in wholesale slaughter of black, brown, Arabic people and millions who are non-white. Here is where BLM and the lockdown left join in an unholy alliance. Imperialist war is the quintessential act of the capitalist state and its need to expand or perish, and it cannot be separated from the daily oppression of workers it carries out at home. Yet with a few exceptions, the lockdown left (formerly the imperial left) and those who form the backbone of BLM have either remained silent, cheered on, or have been the loudest voices advocating the US imperialist wars on Libya and Syria. In 2011, NATO bombed Green Libya to smithereens in support of Al Qaeda and other racist misanthropes, which tragically led to the reappearance of black slavery.[12] NATO’s actions had the full backing of what is now the lockdown left, and there was silence from BLM.

What is more, due to their virulent opposition to the governments of Russia, China and Iran from the right, the lockdown left and many who back BLM in practice aid and assist the very Western governments they otherwise protest against. Joining the imperialist propaganda campaign against Russia, China and Iran materially aids Washington’s preparations for a catastrophic third World War. It is then any wonder that the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the “human face” of the notorious CIA, could release a statement of political support for BLM?[13] As Tony Cartalucci writes[14], any genuine opposition to racism against black people would necessarily include strident opposition to actual and threatened imperialist wars waged by Washington, and backed by Canberra.

Shallow opportunism and hypocritical faux opposition to the capitalist state which uses racism to divide working people will not do. What is required is the building of a working-class struggle against the rule of the private banks and the stock market, from day to day policing up to and including the never-ending danger of imperialist war. Key to this perspective is the forging of an integrated multi-ethnic and multi-racial Marxist vanguard party, which can champion genuine anti-racism as one pillar for the overthrow of elite dominion and the establishment of a socialist order.

Abolish the Coronavirus Commission!

Abolish the Coronavirus Commission!

14-06-2020: The fake coronavirus pandemic has now spawned its own fake coronavirus government. Unfortunately, the entirely appointed National Covid-19 Coordination Commission (NCCC) is all too real. Unelected by anyone, and unaccountable to the federal (or any) parliament, the NCCC is yet another example of the blatant disregard for even a pretence of democracy that the ruling class exhibits from time to time, but especially during a manufactured crisis. Funded by taxpayers, but not required to report or answer to them, the NCCC could be a replica of the V for Vendetta storyline. Some who have been well within the establishment during their careers are raising serious concerns. Retired Justice Margaret White makes eminently valid criticisms, stating that the NCCC is not underpinned by legislation[1], there is no known work plan, and the make-up of the commission is a who’s who of corporate Australia. Aside from a few token representatives from “civil” society, the NCCC is stacked with million-dollar CEOs from the fossil fuel industry, many of whom have never been accountable to anyone except large shareholders.

Rule by CEO

The existence of the NCCC arguably negates the need to cast a vote in elections. Why go to the polls on election day, if the politicians elected can simply be overridden by an appointed body of corporate sector highfliers? Many working people already feel that capitalist democracy equates to rule by private corporations, and here is an egregious example. The NCCC’s Chairman is Nev Power, former CEO of Fortescue Metals. Deputy Chair is David Thodey, a former CEO of Telstra, and IBM in Australia and New Zealand. Commissioner Jane Halton is a board member of ANZ Bank, Clayton Utz and Crown Resorts. Paul Little is Chairman of the Little Group, and former long-term managing director of Toll Holdings. Catherine Tanna is managing director of Energy Australia, and board member of the Business Council of Australia. Yet Commissioner Andrew Liveris takes the cake. He is former Chairman of Dow Chemical and DowDuPont, and sits on the board of Saudi Aramco – a Saudi Arabian oil company!![2] This hand-picked Commission will “advise the Prime Minister and operate within his portfolio”.[3]  There is barely an attempt to conceal corporate domination of elite rule.

The only “Commissioner” who is not directly from the corporate sector is Greg Combet, the former head of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and Labor Party member of federal parliament. No doubt his presence will attempt to lay a veneer of legitimacy on the savage wave of attacks already launched on workers and their Unions with the excuse of a virus. To date, compromised Union officials have already worked with the government to enable changes to a collective agreement by employers would only require 24 hours’ notice. This essentially means that all wages and conditions won through struggle by workers and their Unions, and codified in enterprise or collective agreements, could be abolished overnight – regardless of what is written on paper. Wage rates, working hours, annual leave, sick leave – all could potentially be reduced or wiped at one stroke.

While most of us have been pre-occupied dealing with draconian rules imposed by a police state under the guise of a coronavirus, fossil fuel corporations have asked for, and received, 14 “exemptions” to environmental and corporate regulation, 11 requests for financial assistance and tax cuts, and 12 cases of fast-track approval for projects.[4] As far as the government is concerned, the fake pandemic provides a convenient pretext for yet more handouts for the wealthiest and most environmentally destructive corporations in the hemisphere. In addition, the cover of the coronavirus is being used to once again open up the Narrabri in north east New South Wales (NSW) to coal seam gas. The Coronavirus Commission and the NSW government are literally lining up to give Santos free rein to plunder the earth with hydraulic fracturing – “fracking” – to obtain the methane laden gas which is extremely flammable. Needless to say, this will again escalate carbon emissions which are potentially past the “tipping point” of being able to maintain a safe climate.

Resist corporate takeover

It is critical that workers resist this flagrant disregard for even the pretence of elected government, and blatant environmental destruction under the guise of “getting Australia back to work”. The Covid-19 fraud was never about a virus. It was, and remains, vicious class struggle waged by finance capital against working people. The Coronavirus Commission is but one manifestation of the economic, political and ideological decay of Western imperialism. It is being used to sideline the threadbare trappings of capitalist parliamentary democracy, and to discharge outrageous attacks on working people and the natural environment which would otherwise spark a mass revolt.

Unfortunately, the very bodies that are supposed to defend workers against such an onslaught are the same ones which are leading the assault on the innocent masses. We refer to Union bureaucrats and the ostensible “left” parties – who have combined to repress workers who have the temerity to point out that lockdowns and social-distancing don’t even make logical sense. The lockdown left have prostrated themselves before the politicians and the government they feign to oppose and have gone on to act as police guards of a totalitarian order that would horrify the likes of George Orwell.

What is required is the building and extension of the anti-lockdown movement, for this is the only movement which has made a complete break with bourgeois ideology. The anti-lockdown movement does not accept the false rationale of a “threat” to society from a very mild pathogen, and rejects any authority deceitfully claimed by self-serving politicians, health czars and the corporate media. Workers must assist this movement to evolve in an anti-capitalist and pro-socialist direction, as difficult as that task presently appears. Key to this perspective is the forging of the first elements of a Marxist vanguard party, which can help lead masses in struggle against corona tyranny and for a world fit for human habitation. ABOLISH THE CORONAVIRUS COMMISSION!

Corona Fears Subside as America Burns

Parts of Minnesota in the USA have been set on fire by rioters. Image from abc.net.au

Corona Fears Subside as America Burns

03-06-2020: As if overnight, the Coronavirus fear pandemic is almost vanishing before our eyes. How can we tell? The very people who been the most enthusiastic prosecutors of Covid-19 hysteria are, at the drop of a hat, now saying the most important thing to do is to get out and protest on the streets. Undeniably, the police slaying of George Floyd in Minneapolis in the USA is a tragic occurrence which should never have happened. Under normal circumstances, there should indeed be protests against police brutality. Yet there are many signs that this sad event is being used for opportunistic reasons, over and above the actual issue. For three months straight, Union officials (not members), liberals and the “lockdown left” have been the most aggressive towards anyone who so much as questions the Covid-19 “pandemic” narrative. They are positively hostile towards anyone who points out the dangers lockdowns pose to physical and mental health outcomes, the economy, and the jobs of working people. They are outright warlike to anyone who actually protests against onerous lockdowns. So why are protests now all fine, and are not “anti-science” ?

Coronavirus narrative unravelling

There are many signs that the lockdowns, social-distancing, removal of democratic and civil rights and millions of job cuts were totally unnecessary. Reports are now emerging in the corporate media questioning the need for self-inflicted destruction. If this was to continue without interruption, major questions would be posed to Western governments and their “health” czars. And, all of a sudden, something was found to derail this process. Yes, racial police violence is unacceptable anywhere, and African Americans unfortunately suffer from this particularly. Yet the police in America were racist under Obama, just as they are now under Trump. Aboriginal people in Australia also suffer unjust and systemic violence at the hands of police. Unfortunately, this long pre-dated corona panic-mongering.

While some protest actions across the US have been peaceful, the rioting has been anything but. And yet the political forces backing them have advocated the associated violence as welcome and even “needed”.[1] What is more, some large multi-million-dollar corporations are encouraging the violence – without saying so openly, of course. The Nike corporation, which still pays Indonesian workers a pittance to construct their footwear, rushed out an advertisement encouraging everyone to “take a stand against racism”.[2] By looting Nike stores? By setting fire to other businesses? Ben and Jerry’s ice cream corporation jumped in by calling for the “dismantling of white supremacy”.[3] Ice cream for everyone who throws a brick at the cops? And speaking of cops, while some have used force, some police have actually joined in and marched with the protesters.[4] As a basic rule of thumb, if your protest is backed by bloodsucking corporations, and some police feel a compulsion to join with it, it is not one which is leading to a better world. Moreover, the riots sweeping across the US show disturbing signs of being orchestrated, or at the very least, guided, by very well-resourced entities.

Who is behind the riots?

In at least half a dozen US cities, piles of bricks are mysteriously appearing at riot hotspots. This includes Frisco in Texas, Dallas and Manhattan.[5] One protestor posted a brief video about this, with his friend remarking that there was currently no building construction taking place anywhere nearby. It seems that some group with substantial funding were placing them where they would then direct protestors to pass by. Hey presto – a brick throwing bonanza. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot stated that there was no doubt that the people fighting brought weapons, that the setting fire to buildings and vehicles was organised and choreographed, and the looting followed in an opportunistic manner.[6] What is more, there were a complex network of bicycle scouts, who could direct rioters ahead of the police, and relay reconnaissance. The police are not sure whether these efforts were part of the “left-wing” anti-fascist umbrella group Antifa, right-wing agitators, local street gangs or something else.[7]

What we can gather from afar is that while there are some peaceful protests, and some who are trying to keep it that way, they are engaged with forces who do not want this to occur. The Black Lives Matter movement has long been accused of receiving funding from George Soros’ Open Society, which may or may not be the case. However, there is a distinct lack of clear demands being put forward by all participants. This can be a hallmark of the “colour revolutions” that George Soros has been behind around the world. It possibly could be happening in the USA today. Much of the liberal left, from some self-described socialists, to Union bureaucrats and their milieu do suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome”. That is, a pathological hatred of President Trump so intense that it totally distorts their overall political judgement and behaviour. It causes its sufferers to, amongst other things, ignore the manifest high political crimes of the Democrats in the US, and the Labor Party in Australia. It leads to a move so far to the right that they do not notice themselves moving much further to the right than Trump and his supporters. They then often attack Trump not from the left, but from the right.

The lockdown left does not seem to realise that their extreme advocacy for strict adherence to all Covid-19 rules, no matter how inhumane and nonsensical, is the very thing which has politically empowered the capitalist state they claim to oppose. It has dramatically enabled the very police violence which they hypocritically and opportunistically now decry. Currently, the only thing which is politically countering the ruling classes of the Anglo/EU/US empire is the anti-lockdown movement, which in fact is fighting – inter alia – for the very right to protest at all. This is the key task for class conscious workers right now. It is not an easy one for leftists to navigate, given the political heterogeneity of those who can see through media and elite politicians’ lies. Marxists, though, should be up for the challenge.

Covid-19: The Corruption of Science

Covid-19: The Corruption of Science

25-05-2020: Covid-19 is a nothing-burger. On the scale of emergent threats to human civilisation, SARS-CoV-2 (renamed Covid-19) does not even rate a mention. Compared to ecological collapse, of which global warming is just one part, it’s a fizzer. Compared to the threat of nuclear war launched by Washington in a last-ditch effort to restore a fast-declining empire, Covid-19 is barely a footnote. Even the very Western politicians most responsible for fanning the flames of false coronavirus hysteria publicly admit that this particular virus is extremely unlikely to be of any danger to vast swathes of humanity. At the same time, they put on the Covid-19 act.

In a talk given on April 30, the United Kingdom’s (UK) Chief Medical Officer again outlined that the majority of the population will not be infected with Covid-19. Of those who are infected, a significant proportion will experience NO symptoms. Of those who are infected who actually have symptoms, around 80% of them will only have a mild to moderate experience with the disease. Maybe a few days in bed, but that’s it. A minority of those with the disease will need to go to hospital, but only for some oxygen, before most of them are released. A minority of those will need critical care, and unfortunately some of them may pass away – possibly 1%, possibly less. Even amongst those in the highest risk groups – the elderly, the immune compromised, those with chronic underlying health conditions – a majority of these people will not die.[1]  In other words, Covid-19, like most viruses actually, is utterly harmless to the overwhelming majority of humanity.

Politicians’ spin distorting science

Western politicians inflict devastating lockdowns and economic shutdowns, remove elementary civil and political rights, drive the most vulnerable into even deeper poverty – but the science (when not obscured) indicates almost no danger. In the United States of America (US), the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which on the one hand feeds panic over Covid-19, on the other hand does not hide the position which appears to confirm the science. On its own website, the CDC states that the highest percentage of severe outcomes for those who contract the Covid-19 disease (as opposed to being infected only) occurs in people who are 85 years or older. They admit that those with serious underlying medical conditions – chronic heart issues, extensive lung conditions, diabetes and so on, face the highest risk of developing a severe case of the illness.[2] Even in these cases, whether the Covid-19 illness actually presents a danger to the life of the individual depends on a whole range of other factors.

The possibility of any previously healthy individual developing a critical case of the Covid-19 disease, while not zero, is extremely low.[3] Despite this, the reaction of Western politicians to the coronavirus (which is actually just one of 39 known coronaviruses) is out of proportion to such a degree, that there is a danger that people will begin to mistrust science itself. In Germany, an 84-year-old resident of a nursing home initially tested positive to Covid-19, sparking the shutdown and evacuation of the entire facility. Four days later, it was actually confirmed that the resident was only infected with an older and harmless variant of the coronavirus, which caused something like a common cold.[4] One can imagine the disruption with having to move everyone back into the nursing home after being shoved out for four days. This is despite publicly available evidence which keeps finding, over and over again, that the infection fatality rate (IFR) for Covid-19 is estimated to be between 0.1% and 0.41%. The Centre for Evidence Based Medicine in the UK even found that the IFR for those over 70, and without underlying pre-existing adverse health conditions will likely not exceed 1%. The mortality rate for children is close enough to zero as to be negligible.[5] Even the flu poses a tiny risk to children.

Testing fiasco

The conspicuous corruption of science by Western politicians is nowhere more evident than in the calls for more testing. The inventor of the “test” for Coronavirus, however, stresses repeatedly that it is not meant to be used as a diagnostic tool.[6] The PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test was created by Dr Kary Mullis, for which he won a chemistry Nobel Prize in 1993. It is primarily a laboratory technique, which can detect traces of a virus in nucleic acid within the body. It is not a binary test, i.e., it does not give a positive or negative result per se. What happens is that the relevant medical authorities in the area decide a number above which is “positive”, and below which is “negative”. Yet no-one really knows what “tested positive” actually means. Does it mean that you have had the virus, and have developed immunity to it? Does it mean the virus is present in your body, but you are not experiencing any symptoms? Does it mean you will become sick? The results have to be professionally analysed in a laboratory, and even the conclusion from that may not be totally accurate.

The PCR text can only detect traces of viral activity in DNA, whereas Covid-19 is only present in RNA. So, a Reverse-Transcription PCR (RT-PCR) test has to be carried out. If a nasal or blood sample contains a tiny fragment of Covid-19, the RT-PCR test can detect it. However, a positive RT-PCR test for Covid-19 only means that a person has been exposed to the virus. It does not necessarily mean that the full and intact Covid-19 virus is present. The virus has to be complete to be transmitted and to cause illness.[7] So while the corporate media deliberately and repeatedly intones the phrase “tested positive”, this is only used to induce more panic and fear about the coronavirus. It does not explain the science behind the testing, and it is not meant to. For if it was, the game would be exposed.

The Covid-19 test can deliver a rate of 80% false positives. It may detect one of the four other coronaviruses which have been circulating in the human community for 60 years. It may detect a cold or a flu. The President of Tanzania, John Magafuli, was suspicious about the test kits they were sent from overseas, so he ordered some of his own tests to be done. It turned out that a goat and a paw-paw tested positive![8] Mr Magafuli also stated that some people were testing positive without even being infected. The African countries have good reason to be suspicious of the Coronavirus hysteria, which has triggered draconian lockdowns and absurd social-distancing rules in the wealthy industrialised West. In densely populated parts of Africa, “social distancing” is just not possible.

Separating healthy humans is nonsensical

The Western politicians’ inhumane imposition of tyrannical lockdowns and farcical social distancing has unfortunately been mimicked even by the politicians of some independent states targeted by imperialism, e.g. China, Russia, Iran and Venezuela. This is despite this risible policy flying in the face of basic science. Locking healthy people indoors, away from sunlight, is possibly the worst thing that can be done for a respiratory illness.[9] While workers keep getting threatened with an alleged “second wave” of Covid-19, it is very likely that if people were NOT subjected to house arrest and were allowed to continue circulating in schools, workplaces and social life, natural or herd immunity would have already been reached. The irrational separation of otherwise healthy people has thus created the likelihood of a “second wave”. It has also lowered immune systems which then makes everyone more susceptible to other viruses which may come in future, and which may represent a significant danger.

Despite this, corporate social media giants, acting as defacto arms of Western deep states, are actively censoring anti-lockdown speech and activity, and most especially those most qualified to question the corruption of science by Western politicians. YouTube has directly censored epidemiologist and biostatistician Knutt Wittkowski, who had the temerity to state openly what his decades of experience has taught him. Amongst other things, he stated that will all respiratory diseases, the only thing which actually ends it is herd immunity. Around 80% of people need to have contact with the virus, and the vast majority of them will not even notice that they have been infected.[10] This advice, which makes self-evident sense, was contained in a video which was then deleted by YouTube. Vulgarising science to the point of non-recognition, Western politicians – backed by overpaid Union officials and the liberal left – aggressively enforce lockdowns and social-distancing which in fact foster conditions for the sustainability of Covid-19 and other pathogens which actually are harmful. The working class, and science itself, is thus the main victim of political subservience to private capital.

PRC bureaucrats fuel Covid-19 hysteria

The conservative bureaucratic caste which leads the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is also aiding the West’s Covid-19 plot, despite simultaneously demonstrating the advantages for public health under its own deformed workers’ state. While the PRC did not use the coronavirus as an excuse to wage a frontal attack on their own workers as in the West, the top levels of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has used Covid-19 to reinforce its ultimate loyalty to imperialism – even at the same time as remaining its target. President Xi Jinping delivered an address to the virtual meeting of the World Health Assembly on the 18th of May. In it, he lavished praise on the World Health Organisation (WHO) and called for it to lead the global response to the coronavirus. He groveled before WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom, and whipped up panic about the virus still “raging”.[11] Under the guise of seemingly innocuous calls for “international cooperation”, the speech was a political maneuver which sought an unholy alliance with Western imperialism via the WHO, and against the interests of workers in China and internationally.

The WHO is a front for imperialism, with ongoing corruption allegations standing against it. Tedros Adhanom is a bourgeois politician from Ethiopia and is the first WHO Director-General who is NOT a medical doctor. The WHO’s largest funder is now Bill Gates, the merciless computer software capitalist who masquerades as a philanthropist. The PRC leadership should be politically steering workers away from the WHO, and away from the unscrupulous Western governments who are imposing remorseless lockdowns on workers in the First World. If they were genuine socialists, they would be publicising their scientific findings which show that Covid-19 is generally a weak virus which poses little danger. Yet, there are indications they have done the opposite. China based researchers published some results from carrying out PCR tests on asymptomatic infected individuals who had been in close contact with Covid-19 patients. They found that these tests returned an 80.33% false positive rate.[12] In other words, the testing for Covid-19 is more or less useless, and normal medical processes should be followed if someone feels sick, i.e. seek medical help. Yet this study was withdrawn for reasons which were not given. This suggests that the PRC leadership is attempting to distort scientific findings which grate against their political line which mimics that of the West.

For scientific facts

It is not difficult to see why the science of the coronavirus has been corrupted by Western politicians and is echoed by the bureaucrats at the head of the deformed workers’ states. The real science must be corrupted so as to enable lockdown terror – the current phase of economic and political war against the working class. While the political leaderships of China, Vietnam, the DPRK (“North Korea”) and Cuba have not used the coronavirus to wage economic and political war against “their own” working people, they have no qualms about adding to the intense repression meted out by Western ruling classes against “their own” workers. Instead of speaking out and trying to assist working people in the West suffering from Covid-19 state oppression, the “national-socialists” heading the deformed workers’ states act as accomplices in it, in order to win the favour of imperialism.

Paraphrasing Russian revolutionary leader Leon Trotsky, the Coronavirus plot is the crisis of democracy as the main form of bourgeois rule. As the West falters and Eurasia rises, the Anglo/EU/US ruling classes see democracy, even the truncated version they currently sustain at home, as more and more of an impediment to their goals. Most pointedly, Washington and their acolytes will find it much easier to wage imperialist war against Eurasia with their own population in lockdown, and already trained to accept, with barely a murmur, the removal of elementary democratic and civil rights, up to and including house arrest. The near total lack of working-class leadership to ward off such terror only exacerbates the tendency for 21st century capitalism to slide into fascism.

The anti-lockdown movement has begun heroic resistance, and workers must assist it by building it in the name of the protection of science. It must demand an immediate end to the lockdowns, the cancellation of absurd social-distancing rules, and the re-opening of the economy. It must firmly oppose pointless testing, invasive contact tracing, immunity passports and mandatory vaccinations. State and national borders must be re-opened, to give those without work a chance to regain employment. The much-needed revolution begins with a total break from bourgeois ideology.
